About Patodia Eye Institute
We are a state-of-the-art eye care surgical center in Sarnia, Ontario. Our private practice is the only one in Ontario to house the most advanced technology in the industry. We are also the only ophthalmology practice that can offer complete eye care services in-house (cataracts, glaucoma, LASIK, retina issues).
Our founder, Dr. Patodia grew up in Sarnia and wanted to give back to his community, so he opened an eye practice in 1996. Over the years, he has introduced many “firsts” to the area, like phacoemulsification cataract removal, retinal angiography for diagnosing retinal diseases, and retinal cryopexy to treat retinal tears and detachments.
The innovations and high level of patient care have enabled the practice to go from a small office on Water Street to a plush facility almost 15 times the original size.
Today, patients come from across Ontario to see Dr. Patodia at our clinic in Southwestern Ontario. It includes visiting from as far north as Sudbury and Ottawa in the east.

One aspect that makes us second to none is that Dr. Patodia and our staff are always excited about enhancing the patient experience. Therefore, frequently after surgery, patients praise the excellent outcomes as they can see objects and colors clearly again.
What also sets us apart is that nearly all treatments can be done in-house, which is incredibly convenient. In other cities small or large, one would have to be sent to various ophthalmologists for different ocular issues. However, we can take care of everything in one visit, which prevents patients from making multiple trips.
One of our most significant achievements has been opening the Laser Cataract Surgical Centre. It was years in the making, with dozens of stakeholders collaborating to ensure it finally came to fruition. Our clinic is also CPSO certified, which allows us to provide out-of-hospital procedures in-house (e.g., cataract surgery).
In addition, we have won multiple awards, including Exceptional Accessible Physical Environment, for the forward-thinking in developing an inclusive design for the clinic and twenty-five years of Exceptional Service to the community.
Our dream for the future is to continue to introduce cutting-edge technologies to our patients.
For instance, dry eye is becoming a big issue for all demographics due to the constant use of personal technology devices, so we expect many new treatments to come out of this trend.
We also believe in giving back to society and, as part of that belief, support a number of local charities such as women’s shelters, which is a cause near and dear to the practice and the community. In this regard, we will continue with our annual fundraisers in the summer, pre-COVID.
